Ciba Clear Care contact lens solution- What is the metal gear for?

Q) Does anyone know what the rotating metal looking gear on the bottom of the lens holder is for? Does it aid in the cleaning process somehow?

A) YES. thats the "disc". it activates the hydrogen peroxide solution. you cannot use clear care w/o it. the activation disc and the solution TOGETHER form the chemical reaction that makes the solution "neutralize" into bubbles/saline. the disc is made of metals which are catalysts for that reaction. the solution will not work w/o the disc, and the disc will not work with any other solution. the disc must be replaced every time you start a new bottle of solution. this is why the case/disc comes with the solution. do not use an "old" disc, and do not use the solution with any other case. not only will it not work, it'll BURN like crazy.

Has Ciba Vision discontinued its "Clear Care" contact lens solution?

Q) I use "Clear Care" for my contact lenses and I love it! But I've been to about 10 different stores here in Central Florida and can't find it anywhere! I even asked a clerk at CVS if she knew anything about it and she thought that the product had been discontinued, but didn't know how to confirm it. Any help would be appreciated!

A) No, they haven't discontinued it, but according to the automated message on their hotline, the plant that manufactures it is going through some sort of equipment upgrade, and so it won't be on the shelves again until the beginning of April. I was freaking out myself thinking they'd done something stupid like discontinued it, because I'd gone to like 10 stores in L.A. myself trying to find the darn stuff. I can't use the other manufacturer's brands because they use preservatives, so I was really worried and called Ciba Vision to find out what in flipping hell was going on. :-) It really blows having to wait, but if you can hold out until April, all will be good. Better than having it disappear completely though. I just hope they don't change the formula or anything, because I really rely on it.

CIBA Night & Day contact lenses?

Q) It says you can wear a pair for 30 consecutive days/nights before disposing them. What if I don't wear them every day? Do I still have to replace them after a month? For example, if I only wear my lenses every other day and always remove them before sleep, does that mean a pair of lenses can last two months in my case?

A) I would double check with your eye doctor but in most cases, yes. As long as they are stored in a multi-purpose solution while you are not wearing them.

how come I cant find the Clear Care cleaning solution for contact lenses made by Ciba Vision.?

Q) I can't find them in the usual stores like Walgreens and Target, are they discontinued or found hazardous?

A) It has NOT been discontinued and there have been no studies saying that it isn't an effective cleaner/disinfectant. What really happened is that there was a protocol violation at Ciba's only manufacturing plant. Nothing was contaminated, but Ciba shut down the plant to get everything back the way it was supposed to be. 3 or 4 weeks ago they resumed production of Clear Care and shipped the product to their distribution center in Kansas. Before any of the product could be distibuted, a tornado hit the facility. Ciba can only manufacture one product at a time (Clear Care is first on the list), so it will take a little time for it to get back on the shelves - but it IS coming back!! If you're out of solution, call your eye doctor to find out which one you should use in the meantime.

Anyone know where to buy contact lenses in bulk for cheap? I need Ciba Night & Day contacts.?

Q) I use a piggy back system where I use soft lenses under hard lenses as cushions. I want to buy the soft lenses in bulk quantity as they won't change since they are non prescription. Where's a good place to buy them for a good price?

A) In addition to their low prices, Walmart vision centers offer nice rebates on Focun N&D- up to $100 back

contact lens users please answer?

Q) I need urgent help related to eyes? I wear bausch and lomb contact lenses since last four years. At present Im wearing ciba vision and I purchased it from a reputed doctor last year.Since last three days whenever I used to wear my lenses my right eye would prick but I colud manage.but since yesterday as soon as i wear my right lens it pricks too much and my eye turns red and watery.I get relief only when i take it out.I go to work and at my work place no one knows that i wear lenses so I cant wear my specs. What should i do?do i need to replace my lenses? After removing my lens also my red eye is still reddish. P.S.It pricks on the left top portion of my right eye and not the whole eye. Please help.

A) the contacts curve are probably not right for your eye. no matter the price, you should keep your eyes healthy so you really need to go back to a brand that was the most comfortable and try to get daily conacts so theres less chance of build-up of bacteria in the contacts.

How do I know if my contact lens is inverted according to the small print on every lens?

Q) Inverted as in inside-out not on a different eye. My lenses say CIBA and then four numbers but I dunno if I should insert them from the part where it says CIBA or inverted, when the word is looking opposite to me and is therefore unreadable. The concave shape doesn't help me at all as I can turn them on each way and they'd stay concave. HELP.

A) Look at your lens from the side. It is correct when your lens appears like a perfect semi-circle. When you invert the lens, it does not appear as rounded. Almost like it has edges.

How can I talk to a corporate person at Ciba Vision to get help on my contact lenses?

Q) They continue to send me lenses that don't match in color and size. The lab claims they have no control over what they send out.

A) I'd find out, where else you could go....that's terrible, and there is no excuse for it....

Contact lens wearers, please recomend a deep cleaning soft lens cleaner that really removes the daily scum.?

Q) I currently use the CIBA vision Clear Care (the solution that bubbles). I find that if I use it as directed, I have a film on my vision the next day, the lenses are not clean enough. I must deposit alot of protein through the day. I have adapted the cleaning to this: After I put the lenses in the solution, I watch for the bubbles to lose effectiveness, then I dispose of the solution and replace with fresh solution. This works great, if I dont "forget" to re-do the process. Otherwise, the lenses are not much use the next day. I am using monthy soft lenses. Anyone else have this problem?

A) Solo-care.. THE best! I wear the lenses, throw away the solution, wash the case with water and leave it to dry by itself.... And I use Johnson and Johnson lenses, very comfy.. One more thing, don't use the same pair for more that 15 days if you wear them from the moment you wake up to the moment you go to bed, you might end up with some sort of allergy.. Good luck ^-^ EDIT: Do NOT use Renu.. Everyone.. It is causing eye infections that eventually lead to full blindness.. It happened before, it was all over the newspapers... Please.. AVOID Renu!!
